It may not be the one we were expecting, but here’s hoping yours is joyous nonetheless. I hope you all choose a delightful murder mystery and an equally delightful place to curl up and read it.
Mine will be The Honjin Murders which I ordered 57 years ago and has only recently arrived in the States. In fact, I ordered it so long ago that I had forgotten about it when it arrived two months back. Let’s see if it was worth the wait.
That’s funny, because my thought this morning was “I’m reading a Japanese mystery next”. Mind you, I don’t know that I’ll actually deliver on that when I crack a fresh book tomorrow morning, but it’s a strong possibility. I’ve found these honkaku books to be the best form of escapism and I have no explanation as to why I haven’t read more.

Just imagine how far away a translation of The Hojin Murders seemed when I read the Stone Bridge edition of The Inugami Clan in 2007. š
Merry Christmas and all the best for 2021!

You’re ending 2020 with Honjin, and I’ll probably be starting 2021 with The Inugami Curse. Here’s hoping you have a great festive season, and that all goes well with whatever secret planning for Book 4 you have going on…
