Goodnight Irene 2.0

I have begun my editing project in earnest. Currently working on Chapter 10, I have put some spit and polish on the book’s rough spots. There have been two major themes. 1. Solidifying what Rowan knows at various points and conveying them to the readers and 2. not being such a goddamn pussy about the clues. Jesus, I was uptight. They should be fun and plentiful. I’ve added more clues.

I know a lot more now than when I wrote Irene. I think (hope?) I am more playful with my clues and the way they are presented. GI is written by someone who is terrified that the reader will solve the mystery. I’m fixing that problem.

A lot of the work is involves the formatting. My documnts were a mess and now they’re being cleaned up and properly stored.

I think future readers who pick up Irene will be blessed with a much-improved novel.

As for what works — the plotting and characterization (for the most part) are pleasantly effective. I’m only editing minor dialogue bits.

And I’m adding a map. That makes it better already.
