May 10th, 2026 Update

After a week off, I finally did some writing yesterday. And that break was just fine. I exercised and got some fresh air. This week, I’ll get back into the swing of things while continuing those habits. The creation of The Sapphire Veil is playing out slowly. That seems to be my current M.O., though. I take my time with the first few scenes so I can feel confident in the overall direction. Nothing to worry about.

Currently, I’m not using chapters. That may change, but I doubt it. The way I envision the novel’s events is more in line with a narrator telling a story rather than presenting one. I can’t see Nick saying, “Chapter Four…” He’ll only pause before continuing his tale. Usually, when I think of that style, books like The Red Right Hand come to mind. My book won’t be quite as breathless as that, but it will have a similar creeping inevitability and a narrator trapped inside interpretation.

I’ll try to get a review up soon. This isn’t the busiest place between releases, and it’s hard for me to keep finding reasons to post. Maybe I should have a themed day and force myself to put something up. I could post dreams, recipes, or writing tricks and techniques I’ve used. I dunno. I’ll think about it.

In the meantime, I hope you’re enjoying The Architecture of Murder, and I hope things are going well.

And Happy Mother’s Day.
